Filter by dog count before falling for a property
Many pet-friendly properties accept one dog only. Start with the total number travelling and confirm that the allowance applies to your chosen unit and dates. If you have three or more dogs, direct confirmation before paying is especially worthwhile.
Calculate the full pet cost
Pet charges may apply per dog, per stay or occasionally per night. Ask about refundable deposits and enhanced cleaning rules, then compare the complete holiday cost. Never add an unlisted dog on arrival; it can invalidate the booking terms.
Look at layout, not just occupancy
A six-person cottage can still have a tight entrance and little space for three dog beds. Check floor plans for a utility area, washable floors, direct garden access and a place to feed dogs away from young children. Consider whether dogs can be separated when needed.
Plan the first and last walk of the day
A spectacular trail reached by car does not solve the 7am toilet trip. Look for a safe nearby route, check stiles and livestock, and ask whether the garden is shared. Pack towels, leads and familiar settling mats where they are easy to reach.
